Persecution of academics and scholars due to their disruptive forms of intellectual and creative expression, or because of their ethnic, religious, gender and sexual identities has sent large numbers of academics into exile over the past decades. Resilience-building has emerged as a key approach to addressing these challenges, and various initiatives on both sides of the Atlantic have been launched to support individual scientists and scholars who are forced by authoritarian regimes to seek refuge in other countries.

This workshop aims at exploring best practices, exchanging ideas, and promoting dialogue between multinational funding organizations and academic institutions in their pursuit of empowering at-risk and displaced scholars. This event presents a unique opportunity to bring together German and American perspectives on issues related to academic and creative freedom, exile, and resilience to articulate best practices.
